Driving lessons in South Liverpool

I offer manual driving lessons to complete beginners, those who have had some training, someone who is approaching their driving test, and also refresher sessions for full license holders.

Manual driving lessons are 1 hour and 45 minutes, and cost £75

What to expect from a driving lesson

Before you have your first lesson, we will have an introductory phone call so you are free to ask me any questions you might have, but also so I can find where you are on your journey and what goals you have for your driving lessons. The purpose of this call is to put your mind at ease about starting the lessons, as well as helping me to understand your needs and circumstances.

As a beginner, you will find that I am talking you through the steps more often than not to ensure that everyone is safe and you are driving legally. If you are feeling nervous or unsure then this can be reassuring to know!

As the lessons progress, I will be handing responsibility over to you as soon as you are ready to take it. Don't worry though, I will always be there as a safety net if you make a mistake. My role on the lessons is to hand over the responsibility at a rate that is right for you.

Sometimes you might find you need a talk through, if it is a new situation or a particularly unusual or difficult one. Sometimes you will be able to handle something but having a mentor provide useful tips and feedback will help get you to that next level. As your skills develop even further, what you will be needing is a coach to help you think things through and figure the next steps out yourself. I will always be moving between these roles: talking you through it, being your mentor, or being your coach.

You might not have spent time with a coach before. The role of a coach is to provide you with a safe, blame-free space and the self belief that you can find the solution that works for you. A coach will believe that you already have the answers, but the answers might be hidden, so you will discover them by working together.

Frequently asked questions

Do you teach manual or automatic transmission?

The vehicle I teach in is manual transmission. However, if you own your own automatic vehicle, I am happy to do lessons in your car.

Do you do intensive courses (or crash courses)?

Absolutely, depending on availability. When you get in touch, let me know how frequent you would like the lessons to be; we can do multiple lessons a week, or even a day.

Why are your lessons 1 hour and 45 minutes long?

You should make sure that you have at least a 15 minute break for every two hours of driving. This is rule number 91 in the Highway Code.

With that being said, we likely won't be driving solidly for the whole lesson. I always make sure we have stops to provide time for reflection, feedback, and goal setting.

Do you have any suggestions for reading material while I learn?

Absolutely! You should read The Official Highway Code as these rules are the backbone for many of our lessons. You can also consider reading Learning to Drive which is published by the DVSA specifically for those with provisional drivers licenses.

I can supply you with copies of these books if you let me know during the lessons.

Can I use your car for my driving test?

Using the same car you have learnt to drive in on your driving test has loads of advantages. You will be familiar with all the controls, as well as the feel of the clutch, gears, and steering.

You can use my car on the test as long as you have proven you are ready to pass. The easiest way to do this is by passing a mock test

Do you have a waiting list?

Depending on the demand I have for lessons at your preferred time, I might be able to offer you a lesson the same week you message or you might find you end up on my waiting list. I will tell you what position number you are on the list and will let you know when you are moving up it. It can be anything between a week and a few months, depending on demand.

Do I need to do anything before starting the lessons?

If you are a complete beginner, before starting the lessons you need to have applied for your provisional drivers license, and have had it arrive in the post. If you have not yet applied for your license, you can do this on the government website.

Terms and conditions

  1. If you need to rearrange or cancel a lesson, please give me 48 hours' notice so I have the opportunity to offer the slot to someone else. If you don't give 48 hours' notice, the lesson fee will still be charged.
  2. Any lessons paid for in advance must be taken within six months.
  3. All stated lesson start and finish times are traffic dependant. This means that sometimes we might start or finish 5 or 10 minutes early or late. This won't reduce the amount of training you will recieve, which will always be 1 hour 45 minutes.
  4.  If your driving test is cancelled due to an examiner being unavailable, the charge for the sesson will still apply but I can provide you with forms to claim the cost back from the DVSA.
